7-Ways to lose your Shirt using Adwords!

Keith Thompson: Here's 7 great ways I've found to do just that...

Not getting enough keywords, and I don't mean just numbers.

Not creating adgroups.

No negative keywords.

Using only broad keyword searches for their keywords.

Not testing and rotating your ads.

Not using the content targeted feature wisely.

Not having a GREAT sales page.

Adsense CPM ads?

Of late, my Adsense reports include revenues even where no clicks were reported. The revenues seem to be directly proportional to impressions. Is Google paying per impression on some ads? Yes they are, but only with Site Targeted ads. What does this mean? Someone has bought site targeted ads on my domain. Nice!

10 Ways To Make People Click

Use psychological techniques when designing your banner
ads.

Make your banner ad words as interesting as achievable.

Offer a discount offer on your banner ad.

Include positive statements from customers in your
banner ad.

You can add a prominent and highly regarded individual
on your banner ad.

Incorporate a compelling pledge on your banner ad.

Be explicit when you instruct people to select your
banner ad.

You could create a promotion allowing people to try your
product before they buy it.

Tell people the major benefit of your product, web
site or service on your banner ad.

You could offer a product for free on your banner ad.

Why Adsense for Feeds is a Bad Idea

A Whole Features: Who would you subject to advertising, if you had a say in the matter: random visitors or your biggest fans?

Randy: By biggest fans, he means your subscribers. His point is that subscribers are not likely to click on ads, where-as random referred visitors are more likely to click on ads. As such, advertising in feeds is pointless and I partially agree.

This “heat map” illustrates these ideal placements on a sample page layout. The colors fade from dark orange (strongest performance) to light yellow (weakest performance).

Adsense SPAMreport

JenSense: If you see a site violating the AdSense terms, you can now file an anonymous spam report that will get to the quality team for checking. To file a report, you simply go to the page that is showing AdSense ads and click on the "Ads by Google" (or "Ads by Goooooogle") link. In the form on the next page, include the term "spamreport" and put in a short reason about why you feel the site is violating the AdSense terms or policies. You can also enter your own email address, if you wish, then click submit.

Finding High Paying Keywords

AdMoolah: There are several sources of keyword lists that can be obtained on the Internet for free or for sale. Keyword lists supply a large number of high-paying keywords and the maximum bid prices for these keywords. These lists can be a good place to start brainstorming for content ideas. [cut] Here are some free lists that are available:

Yahoo Behavioral Ads

Marketing Vox: Yahoo [cut] has begun to test the placement of cost-per-click text ads on web pages based on user behavior [cut]. The program could eventually challenge Google's extensive AdSense network, which places ads based on website content. Yahoo's new effort instead targets ads to consumer behavior.
